It’s Labor Day weekend which reminds me that we’ve reached the end of meteorological summer. And, of course, I ask myself, “Where did the summer go?” That’s because I can’t remember what I did with the time, how I used it, squandered it, enjoyed it, wasted it or invested it – it just vanished.
Over the last several weeks (5 to be exact) I’ve had a chance to take a course on the Tao Te Ching, a classic Chinese spiritual text authored some 2400 years ago, traditionally credited to the sage Lao-tzu (the founder of Taoism) who may have been a cluster of authors, not necessarily a single person.
I’ve been reading a lot lately on the construct of the samskara – the word samskara comes from the Sanskrit sam (complete or joined together) and kara (action, cause, or doing). In a simple word, this term neatly explains why we get stuck in a rut, paralyzed by our old patterns, and feel unable to move forward, despite our best intentions.
This weekend I listened to a podcast with Hal Elrod, author of The Miracle Morning. His formula for how to jump-start each day is encapsulated in the title of his book. He includes six practices that have established for him (and for thousands of his readers/followers) a method for changing how his days unfold.
